Whenever we can, we model the non—Maxwellian nature of the plasma by transport models, e.g. for heat flow, but this is a specialised skill in itself. When one considers that conventional hydrodynamics is very complex and involves advanced numerical simulation, it is hardly surprising that simulation plays such an important role in plasma physics. Divided into three main parts, the book guides the reader to an understanding of the basic concepts in this fascinating field of research. Part 1 introduces you to the fundamental concepts of simulation. It examines one-dimensional electrostatic codes and electromagnetic codes, and describes the numerical methods and analysis. Part 2 explores the mathematics and physics behind the algorithms.

Analytical studies, supported by analog computer simulation, of methods for measuring reactor transfer functions indicated that the different analyzers can be considered as groupings of similar pieces of electronic equipment. 2) developed an ability to evaluate the validity of numerical simulations. 3) created a suite of codes for various plasma physics applications. 4) an ability to develop an understanding of plasma physics using simulations as a tool. A disk model is developed to simulate the propagation of a cylindrical relativistic electron beam through plasma into vacuum via collective acceleration of positive ions from the plasma. Simulation results show dynamic details of electron and ion flow not noticed previously. The high‐energy tail in the ion distribution is attributed to motion of the virtual cathode early in time when the.
